Lori Thein Brody, Ph.D, MS, PT, SCS, ATC

The Female Athlete

Lori Thein Brody is a physical therapist, serves as Senior Clinical Specialist and Manager of the Aquatic Rehabilitation Services at the University of Wonsconsin Clinic's Research Park Sports Medicine and Spine Center.

She is a sports certified specialist and previously served on the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties. Dr. Brody is the Graduate Program Director for the Orthopaedic and Sports Doctorate Program at Rock Mountain University of Health Professions. Dr. Brody is currently pursuing a doctoral degree at the Univeristy of Wisconsin in Population health.

She has numerous publications in a diversity of topics in sports physical therapy and has recently co-authored and edited the second edition of Therapeutic Exercise: Moving Toward Function, published by Lippincott-Raven Williams & Wilkins Company.

Paul K. Canavan PhD, PT, ATC, CSCS

Paul K. Canavan received his Bachelor of Science degree from Quinnipiac College, School of Physical Therapy. He received his graduate education, Masters and Doctorate of Philosophy in Kinesiology/Exercise Science at the University of Connecticut. He has worked with a wide range of patients with Orthopaedic problems from pediatrics to geriatrics. He has also worked with athletes at all levels of competition. Currently Dr. Canavan is a full time faculty member in the Physical Therapy Program at Northeastern University in Boston, MA.

Dr. Allen Carpenter PT, Cert, MDT

Normal Anatomy and Pathophysiology of Foot and Ankle

Allen graduated from West Virginia Univ. in 1998 with a degree in physical therapy. He is the director of the San Francisco group of Physiotherapy Associates, and specializes in orthopaedic and sport specific rehab. Since completion of his year long fellowship with
Dr. Robert Donatelli, he has become an author and instructor in subjects including lower extremity normal/abnormal mechanics, shoulder pathophysiology and sport specific rehabilitation.

Nancy Deihl, MS, PT, ATC

The Female Athlete

Nancy is a physical therapist/athletic trainer at SportsCare at Blue Valley, Shawnee Mission Medical Center.

She received a Bachelor of Science degree in Health/Physical Education from Fort Hays State, a Master of Science degree in Physical Education/Athletic Training from the University of Arizona and a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Therapy from the University of Kansas.

Ms. Diehl served as a collegiate athletic trainer at the University of Arizona, the University of New Mexica and Emporia State University.

Robert Donatelli, Ph.D, PT, OCS

Normal Anatomy and Pathophysiology of Foot and Ankle.

Dr. Donatelli is a board certified orthopedic specialist with 20 years of experience in orthopedic and sports rehabilitation.

Dr. Donatelli currently serves as the National Director of Sports Rehabilitation for Physiotherapy Associates, is a consultant to the Philadelphia Phillies and serves on the research committee for PBATA (Professional Baseball Athletic Trainers Society).

He has edited three textbooks: Physical Therapy of the Shoulder, 3rd Edition, Orthopaedic Physical Therapy, 2nd Edition, and Biomechanics of the Foot and Ankle, 2nd Edition. Dr. Donatelli also serves on the editorial staff of two journals: Orthopaedic and Sports Physical Therapy and Manual Therapy.

C. Cecile Fountain-Heron, MSG, PT, NHA

Physical Therapists in Skilled Nursing Facilities

Ms. Fountain-Heron is a graduate of McGill University and has a Masters degree in Health and Human Services, specializing in Gerontology from the College of Boca Raton. She is licensed as a physical therapist and a nursing home administrator and is currently director of rehabilitation at a skilled nursing facility.

Peggy Gleeson, Ph.D, PT

Documentation and Functional Outcomes: A Primer for Medicare and Managed Care

Dr. Gleeson received her B.S. in Physical Therapy from St. Louis University and her M.S. and Ph.D. in Physical Therapy from Texas Women’s University.

With 22 years of experience as a teacher and clinician in the field of physical therapy, Dr. Gleeson is currently Assistant Professor and Assistant Academic Coordinator of Clinical Education at Texas Women’s University.

James E. Glinn, Sr., PT

Strategies for Managed Care in Rehabilitation: The New Millennium

James E. Glinn, Sr. is a physical therapist with over thirty years of experience as a clinician, clinical supervisor, administrator, and educator. Glinn has been lecturing for the last seventeen years on topics relative to back pain management as well as how to survive managed care.

In addition, Glinn has over 16 years of successfully running his own 35 employee PT practice. Glinn currently consults chains & private practices on clinical applications and capitation.

Esther Kane, OTR

Understanding and Treating the Geriatric Patient

Ms. Kane received her B.S. in Occupational Therapy from Florida International University and has worked in the geriatric care environment her entire professional career.

She has served as author, contributor, and editor for various occupational therapy books, journals, and newsletters.

Jeff Larson, PT, ATC

Lumbar Spine Injuries in Athletics: Functional Anatomy, Evaluation, and Treatment

Jeff Larson received a Bachelor of Science in physical therapy at the University of Utah and a Bachelor of Science in athletic training at North Dakota State University. He holds current licenses as both a physical therapist and athletic trainer and is currently pursuing a manual therapy certification. Mr. Larson is a published author and biomedical writing. He holds membership in the American Medical Writer's Association.

Janice Loudon, Ph.D, PT, ATC

The Female Athlete

Janice Loudon is an associate professor in the Department of Physical Therapy Education at the University of Kansas Medical Center and provides clinical services at a sports medicine clinic in Kansas City. A sports certified specialist and certified athletic trainer, Dr. Loudon earned her Ph.D in movement sciences and biomechanics at Washington University, St. Louis, Missouri.

Additionally, she has completed a certification in orthopedic manual therapy through the Ola Grimsby Institute and a 3-month manual therapy mentorship from Kaiser Permanente in Hayward, CA.

Jon Mukand, MD, Ph.D

Total Knee Replacement

Dr. Mukand has served as Medical Director and consultant for numerous rehabilitation centers and is currently a Clinical Assistant Professor at Boston, Brown & Tufts Universities. Dr. Mukand has led Total Knee Replacement Studies and is an accomplished author and presenter. In addition to these achievements, he has received the 1997 George Moore Outstanding Achievement Award from Rhode Island Rehabilitation Association and the 1997 Special Service Award from the American Heart Association.

Dr. Mukand has authored about 30 scientific publications and was the PI for the first patient in the BrainGate study.

Marcia J. Pearl, Ph.D, PT

Innovative Wound Care Techniques

Dr. Pearl is the Chair of the Department of Physical Therapy at Georgia State University. She has extensive clinical experience in the acute hospital, skilled nursing facility, home health, and sub-acute settings. Dr. Pearl has been on the faculties and has served as a consultant for many universities.

In addition, she has served as the President of the Physical Therapy Association of Georgia.

Tom Rafferty, PT

Mr. Rafferty earned a BS degree from Springfield College and a Post-Graduate Certificate in Physical Therapy from the University of Pennsylvania. He has over 38 years of clinical and management experience in a wide variety of physical therapy and rehabilitation settings.

Included in Mr. Rafferty’s background are Directorship positions in CARF-Certified Work Hardening/Industrial Rehab Centers, an Orthopedic Rehab Facility, a Family Practice PT Center and Hospital-Based Rehab Centers.

Enna D. Santiago, MSG, PT

Physical Therapists in Skilled Nursing Facilities

Ms. Santiago is a graduate of the University of Puerto Rico and completed her Masters degree in Gerontology from Nova University. She is currently the PT clinical manager for a contract rehab company. She is an author and presenter on topics relative to geriatrics and nursing home management and has established rehab departments within skilled nursing facilities.

Gary Smith, MS, PT

Industrial Medicine & Rehabilitation

A physical therapist with over 25 years of experience, Gary Smith brings strong clinical and administrative skills to the specialty known as industrial medicine. As a practitioner, researcher, and educator, he has conducted studies, created in-service programs for physicians, developed a back school for industry, and instituted a stretching program used nation-wide.

Mr. Smith holds a BS degree in Physical Therapy from Georgia State University, and a MS in Orthopedic Physical Therapy from the Institute of Graduate Health Sciences, Atlanta.

Jill Thein, MPT, SCS, ATC

Jill received her BS from Iowa State University in Physical Education with an emphasis in athletic training and received her athletic training certification in 1990. She received her Master of PT from the University of Iowa in 1993.

She became a Sports Certified Specialist through the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties in 2001.

Jill is currently a Faculty Associate at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where she teaches course in the Clinical Sciences track.

Jill currently serves on the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties Sports Council and is an Editorial Board member for the North American Journal of Sports Physical Therapy. She is also a Faculty Member in the University of Wisconsin/Meriter Hospital’s Orthopedic Clinical Residency Program.

Stephanie Weiler, MSPT

Normal Anatomy and Pathophysiology of Foot and Ankle

Stephanie Weiler began her career with Physiotherapy Associates after receiving her master’s degree in physical therapy at UCSF in 2002. She is currently the group director for 3 of Physiotherapy Associates’ East Bay clinics. Stephanie’s newest endeavor is a year long mentorship and certification program under Dr. Robert Donatelli called “Strengthen Your Game”, geared toward assessing and improving the game of golfers.

Russell M. Woodman, PT, MS, DPT, FSOM, OCS, MCTA

Evaluation & Treatment of Shoulder & Elbow; Upper Extremity etc ; Wrist and Hand

Mr. Woodman is a graduate of Ithaca College and received his graduate education from the United States Air Force Medical Services School, Lehman College School of Health Education. He has studied with Cyriax, Travell, and McConnell and is currently completing his certification as a Mulligan teacher.

Woodman is an experienced hands-on therapist, as well as an author and educator. He is currently the Director of the Graduate Program in Physical Therapy at Quinniapiac College as well as a full teaching member of the British Society of Orthopedic Medicine.
